Nordisch Masters, Part II

Category: Battle ReportsWarmaHordes Comments: No comments

Part 2 of the Nordisch Masters (Go here to read about Part 1). So now I am 2-1 and pretty confident I can win at least one more game. After Dinner Round 4 starts. I get paired against Kevin from Berlin with Legion. He is a pretty good player, so this one is gonna be hard.

Round 4 – the “Oh, thats now the arc node” Game

He brings Thagrosh 1 and Vayl 2 – both out of theme. I think I have a better chance with Haley so I drop her, he drops Vayl 2. We play the Pit.

Turn 1. He goes first and runs up, carefully trying to stay out of range of stuff. I have a house in front of my flag, so naturally I gravitate towards that. Since his Raptors have run very far up the table and have Occultation on them, he pressures me early...

Nordisch Masters, Part I

Category: Battle ReportsWarmaHordes Comments: One comment

Last weekend, Bartek, Samir, Alex and I went north to the Nordisch Masters in Bremen, where we wanted to find out who would become the new King in the North! Its May, so Winter isn’t coming for a good long while – and thats enough with the GoT references.

Nordisch Masters is a 64 player Masters event that is always fully booked. It usually attracts the elite of Germans Warmachine scene to Bremen to fight until only one was left. No matter our goals at the tournament, it would be a tough ride – just because there were so many good players attending.

Since I had quite a bit of success with the list, I brought Haley 2 in Heavy Metal to the tournament. It gave me my first ever tournament victory a while back and suits my playstyle really well.

(Haley 2) Major Victoria Haley [+25] [Theme] Hea...

Then and now: A Warmachine career

Category: Battle ReportsWarmaHordes Comments: One comment

Its 2006. Heavy Metal Dayz 2. The last game. My choir boy (I played Protectorate of Menoth back then) battled a Cygnar-employed Rhupert Carvolo. It was a fierce battle, the details of which escape my memory. What I do remember was that this battle between two minor characters on the battle field would decide who won that game and who lost. The loser would go on to get a trophy… the one for last place.

You can see the trophy (and thus the result of that battle) on the left in the photo below. For those very few of you who don’t understand German colloquialisms – Kacknoob just means “Shit noob”. I am still proud of that trophy and still display it in my appartment. My attitude towards the game has changed a bit and now I am trying to chase more trophys like the other one in that photo.

Much...

Fratzengeballer

Category: Battle ReportsWarmaHordes Comments: 2 comments

So after a hiatus of about a month I finally played some Warmachine again last week. This time at our club – something we call “Fratzengeballer”. You can’t really translate that properly into english. It basically means, “getting your face bashed in”.

We were 12 people. My Siege list still needed 1 game, so I brought that. And I tested out a brand new Stryker 2 list, which I “borrowed” from the Belgians. Although my Nemo 1 list still has 4 games to go, I decided to bring this Stryker list:

Stryker2 -28
– Stormclad 18
– Thorn 13
Journeyman Warcaster 4
– Firefly 8
Storm Lances (Leader and 4) 20
Storm Lances (Leader and 4) 20
Major Katherine Laddermore 8
Major Harrison Gibbs 4
Ragman 4
Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord 4

Objective: Fuel Cache

Since this was a 3 r...

Der Eisenhammer!

Category: Battle ReportsWarmaHordes Comments: No comments

And we have another tournament report. Der Eisenhammer! Its also organised by the Headblast club in Oberhausen, and its called that because the location is literally “Am Eisenhammer”. You can’t make that up.

Where the HMD were a 3 man team tournament, for the Eisenhammer we went full WTC. 5 man teams, WTC pairing rules. Most of the German WTC players were there, plus some Belgians and Dutch, as well as 1 Swede!

Bartek, Alex and I found us 2 more players – Martin, who played Skorne (no, not THAT Martin) and Björn, who also brought Cygnar. So we went with this lineup:

Bartek – Khador – Karchev, Irusk 2
Alex – Retribution – Vyros 2, Ossyan
Martin – Skorne – Naaresh, Hexeris 2
Björn – Cygnar – Darius, Haley 1
me – Cygnar – Caine 2, Maddox

I was determined not to play Caine all day long...

Heavy Metal Dayz Review, Part 2

Category: Battle ReportsWarmaHordes Comments: No comments

This is part 2 of my Heavy Metal Dayz review – if you haven’t read the first part, click here.

Previously on “Caine’s crazy adventure”: I went 2-1 in the first 3 rounds of the tournament, getting tabled once, winning by scenario once and Trick-shotting Haley 2 to death in the third game. Crazy as it sounds, we as a team were undefeated at that point – one of 6 teams.

Which brings me to:

Game 4 – The ‘It is still a dice game’ Game

We draw team “Diced Cocks”, a few Warhammer converts (who did quite well in Warhammer I am told). And we also draw the video table. You can watch my game here, and if you go to Page5.de’s Channel you can watch the rest of our coverage at Heavy Metal Dayz.

Anyways – we pair off: Cygnar vs. Ret (me), Khador vs. Skorne (Bartek) and Ret vs...

Heavy Metal Dayz Review, Part 1

Category: Battle ReportsWarmaHordes Comments: 2 comments

Its that time of the year again – the Heavy Metal Dayz took place about 2 weeks ago. This is the largest and longest running team tournament in Germany. I have participated in the first one in late 2005 (thats actually how I met Tim) and in the first 5 HMDz. Took a break for a few years and went back in 2013.

So this year Schmerzi – the mascot, drawn by Florian Stitz – proclaimed a Stone Age Smackdown. Bartek, Alex and I went as team “Get off my lawn” (you know because we are old and want all those kids off our lawn – yeah, we’ll change it next year). After going 1-5, 2-4, 2-4 the past 3 years we wanted to be better and go at least 3-3.

Bartek went with Karchev and Butcher 1, Alex with Vyros 2 and Kaelyssa – taking the 4th faction in as many years (Khador, Skorne, Cryx, Ret).

Since M...

Bonehammer’s Brewery: A Swan Song!

Category: Battle ReportsWarmaHordes Comments: No comments

As I already announced last week, for the forseeable future my Trolls will go on the shelf and I will switch over to Cygnar.

But not before I took the Trolls out for a last spin. Last weekend was the EU Masters tournament in Rotterdam, where most of the WTC players of Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden and of course Germany, plus quite a few other players met to see who’s the best player. It was a 7 round event over 2 days.

We travelled there on friday evening so that we could be ready for the games come saturday morning. We played in a bridge club of all places. Tables were set on two floors and 85ish players met to play Warmachine.

I brought the lists I had played almost exclusively the past few months, with only minor tweaks along the way.

Hoarluk Doomshaper (*7pts)
* Troll Axer (6pts)
* ...

I don’t know exactly why posted the image, but I am glad they did. Borka will get an epic version in the next book and it will look like this:

eBorka

Do I need to say anything more? This might be the first Hordes Model I absolutely have to get on release date. And its only fitting that I currently going back to pBorka and building a Family Reunion list.

Bonehammer’s Brewery: A year in review

Category: Battle ReportsWarmaHordes Comments: No comments

A little over a year ago, Alex, Bartek and I got invited back into the hobby. We basically got roped into participating in the biggest tournament in Germany – the Heavy Metal Dayz. We had about 3 months before the tournament to re-familiarize ourselves with game and aquire the necessary miniatures to participate.

As you know, I choose trollbloods as my faction this time around. Both for me and Alex it had been about 5 years since we last played and we had never played a single game in MK II.

Ever since I started, I lost more games than I won. Way more games. Last summer I discovered IronGrudge, an Android app that lets you record your game scores. Since then I have recorded 54 games.

I won 12 of them. Roughly 22%. Not a very good margin...
